Overview

The Experienced Welder position at Newport News Shipbuilding involves performing structural and pipe welds in all phases of ship construction. The company is the largest industrial employer in Virginia and specializes in building U.S. Navy nuclear aircraft carriers and submarines.

Responsibilities

• Perform structural and pipe welds using various welding processes.
• Complete welding school to become qualified.
• Use a wide range of welding filler metals.
• Conduct tack, fillet, and full penetration welding.
• Satisfy all nondestructive tests requirements.
• Receive additional training in areas such as certified visual inspection and troubleshooting.

Requirements

• At least one full year of welding experience.
• Ability to work in small confined spaces.
• Must be able to kneel, squat, crawl, bend, stoop, and climb.
• Must be able to lift 40 lbs.
• Must pass a respirator fit test.
• Must pass a Physical Agility Test.
• High school graduate or equivalent preferred.
