Job Description

Overview

The Operator at BP Whiting is responsible for operating and monitoring conveyor systems that transport petroleum coke, supporting 24/7 operations through rotating shifts. The role involves operating heavy mobile equipment and ensuring safe and efficient handling of materials.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and monitor conveyor systems using automation.
  • Utilize Human Machine Interface (HMI) for system control and equipment status.
  • Monitor interlocks, temperature, and material level alarms.
  • Operate Kanawha Loading Tower for railcar loading of petroleum coke.
  • Notify shift personnel of system faults.
  • Observe movement of coke on conveyor.
  • Operate dust suppression and rain bird systems.
  • Operate D-9 Dozer to gouge out and distribute petroleum coke.
  • Operate WA-500 wheel loader for loading petroleum coke.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on equipment.
  • Conduct general cleanup of coke using various tools.
  • Maintain radio communication with crew and supervisor.
  • Coordinate operations with customers and outside personnel.
  • Assist maintenance or other departments as required.
  • Attend safety meetings and training programs.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Train to operate heavy mobile equipment including D-9 Dozer.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Must possess a valid motor vehicle operator's license.
  • Must obtain a Transportation Workers Identification Card (TWIC).
  • Ability to work overtime and weekends as needed.
  • Must be able to perform shift work, rotating day/night.
