Overview

The Plumber - A position involves maintaining, repairing, installing, and replacing various plumbing systems including water, gas, steam, and drainage systems. The role requires flexibility to work during emergencies, including weekends and holidays.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains, repairs, installs and replaces water, gas, steam, air and medical gas and drainage systems.
  • Threads, solders, fits and welds pipes.
  • Installs, connects, repairs and replaces pipes.
  • Assembles plumbing fixtures such as sinks, toilets, showers and water heaters.
  • Maintains fire systems, checking sprinklers and standpipes.
  • Fits gaskets, seals joints, and makes connections using weld, solder, nuts and bolts.
  • Repairs autoclaves, sterilizing equipment and distilled water units.
  • Paints, plasters or replaces tile and floor boards when necessary.
  • Maintains cleanliness of all equipment and shop.
  • Performs related duties as required.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED, required.
  • Vocational high school graduate with 2 years plumbing courses or equivalent, required.
  • G38 Torch use of O-2 COMB GAS Certificate, required.
  • Burning and Welding Certificate, required.
  • Minimum of two years general experience as plumber or steamfitter, required.
  • Knowledge of shop tools, pipe threading, electric drills, rotary hammers, required.
  • Ability to interpret building and plumbing codes.
  • Ability to read blueprints and schematics in accordance with NYC Code.
  • Working knowledge of all building, grounds, facilities and department work areas, required.
  • Computer literacy preferred.
  • G60 and F60 FDNY certification, preferred.

Additional Information

  • Must be able to work weekends, holidays and other shifts in the event of emergency.
