Overview
The Plumber - A position involves maintaining, repairing, installing, and replacing various plumbing systems including water, gas, steam, and drainage systems. The role requires flexibility to work during emergencies, including weekends and holidays.
Responsibilities
- Maintains, repairs, installs and replaces water, gas, steam, air and medical gas and drainage systems.
- Threads, solders, fits and welds pipes.
- Installs, connects, repairs and replaces pipes.
- Assembles plumbing fixtures such as sinks, toilets, showers and water heaters.
- Maintains fire systems, checking sprinklers and standpipes.
- Fits gaskets, seals joints, and makes connections using weld, solder, nuts and bolts.
- Repairs autoclaves, sterilizing equipment and distilled water units.
- Paints, plasters or replaces tile and floor boards when necessary.
- Maintains cleanliness of all equipment and shop.
- Performs related duties as required.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED, required.
- Vocational high school graduate with 2 years plumbing courses or equivalent, required.
- G38 Torch use of O-2 COMB GAS Certificate, required.
- Burning and Welding Certificate, required.
- Minimum of two years general experience as plumber or steamfitter, required.
- Knowledge of shop tools, pipe threading, electric drills, rotary hammers, required.
- Ability to interpret building and plumbing codes.
- Ability to read blueprints and schematics in accordance with NYC Code.
- Working knowledge of all building, grounds, facilities and department work areas, required.
- Computer literacy preferred.
- G60 and F60 FDNY certification, preferred.
Additional Information
- Must be able to work weekends, holidays and other shifts in the event of emergency.
