Overview

The Utility position is an hourly role that reports to the Production Shift Supervisor at Owens Corning. The employee is responsible for ensuring the production of quality shingles and maintaining safety and efficiency during the manufacturing process.

Responsibilities

• Follow and enforce all safety rules and procedures.
• Maintain good housekeeping in all work areas.
• Participate on safety teams.
• Perform laminator quality checks.
• Ensure bundles are properly stacked when exiting autocatchers.
• Evaluate layout board.
• Monitor and report unusual or suspect material issues.
• Remove off-specification shingles from line.
• Ensure that no granule build-up is falling onto bundles.
• Remove splices.
• Monitor levels and application of laminate and seal.
• Be familiar with the laminator, autocatchers, palletizer, and line drive jobs and procedures.
• Manually stack-off product during equipment failure.
• Clear machine jams.
• Prepare shingle bundles for wrapper.
• Wrap or rewrap finished product as necessary.
• Visibly check measurements of shingles.
• Assist in lace-up procedures.
• Handle, stack, weigh, mark, and store product seconds in proper location.
• Perform preventive maintenance on down days.
• Assist team members to keep front end of line running smoothly.
• Relieve front end team members for break periods.
• Assist the shift mechanic on machine outages.
• Visibly verify completion and submission of operator paperwork.
• Participate in process teams.

Requirements

• Must have a minimum high school diploma or equivalent.
• Must be able to read, write, and speak English.
• Must be able to work at a reasonably fast pace.
• Must be able to work flexible shift schedules.
• Regular attendance, timeliness, and scheduling flexibility are required.
• Must have the ability to do basic mathematical calculations.
• Must be able to work with a computer to perform basic data entry.
• Must be able to operate a forklift.
