Overview
Vulcan Materials Company is seeking an experienced Civil/Structural Engineer to lead and manage multiple infrastructure and building projects in Irwindale, CA. The role involves hands-on engineering, project management, and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams to ensure safety, compliance, and effective communication throughout the project lifecycle.
Responsibilities
- Champion safety by prioritizing safety throughout operations in accordance with MSHA and Vulcan standards.
- Recommend and develop division-wide design standards and Construction Standards.
- Develop structural and mechanical general arrangement drawings to meet project demands.
- Coordinate and review engineering services provided by outside parties and internal designers.
- Assist in securing necessary construction permits and recommend equipment and materials for projects.
- Develop cost estimates, equipment specifications, and proposals while scheduling work to meet completion dates.
- Monitor work in progress to ensure quality and engineering standards are met.
- Collaborate with Procurement and Vendors to expedite deliveries and assist in contractor selection.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Degree in Engineering required; BS Civil Engineer or BS Structural Engineer preferred.
- Minimum of 10 years of structural engineering experience, including heavy industrial projects.
- A PE or EIT license is preferred.
- Thorough knowledge of design specifications, building codes, and equipment utilized within the company's plants.
- Proficiency in engineering software including spreadsheets, word processing, AutoCAD, and structural analysis/design tools.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to perform all phases of structural engineering tasks including investigation, inspection, modeling, analysis, and design.
- Experience in preparing building permits and knowledge of construction methods, materials, and permitting.
- Ability to work independently and within multidisciplinary teams.
- Demonstrated project management experience including budgeting, scheduling, and team coordination.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
