Overview
Burns & McDonnell is seeking a Staff Structural Engineer to lead a multi-discipline team in addressing the challenges faced by North America's largest utilities, providing opportunities for professional growth.
Responsibilities
- Think creatively to address complex challenges faced by utilities.
- Perform rigid bus analysis and design electrical substation steel structures.
- Be mentored by more experienced engineers.
- Provide support for clients during construction.
- Perform field inspections and compliance documentation.
- Lead a team of single-discipline professionals to ensure project success.
- Present designs and proposals to clients and authorities.
- Correspond and meet with clients, contractors, and vendors.
- Participate in project proposal efforts.
- Advance into leadership roles.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field from an ABET-accredited program and three years of structural engineering experience.
- Alternatively, a Master’s degree in Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field from an ABET-accredited program and two years of structural engineering experience.
- Experience in performing rigid bus analysis and designing electrical substation steel structures.
- Strong knowledge of standard structural engineering techniques and procedures.
- Strong knowledge of structural design codes (e.g., IBC, AISC, ACI, ASCE 7).
- Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong knowledge of structural analysis programs (e.g., RISA 3D, STAAD Pro, ETABS, SAFE).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Working knowledge of CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, MicroStation, Revit, Tekla).
- Demonstrated critical thinking skills and ability to work analytically.
- Strong attention to detail, collaboration, organization, and problem-solving skills.
