Overview

Burns & McDonnell is seeking a Staff Structural Engineer to lead a multi-discipline team in addressing the challenges faced by North America's largest utilities, providing opportunities for professional growth.

Responsibilities

  • Think creatively to address complex challenges faced by utilities.
  • Perform rigid bus analysis and design electrical substation steel structures.
  • Be mentored by more experienced engineers.
  • Provide support for clients during construction.
  • Perform field inspections and compliance documentation.
  • Lead a team of single-discipline professionals to ensure project success.
  • Present designs and proposals to clients and authorities.
  • Correspond and meet with clients, contractors, and vendors.
  • Participate in project proposal efforts.
  • Advance into leadership roles.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field from an ABET-accredited program and three years of structural engineering experience.
  • Alternatively, a Master’s degree in Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field from an ABET-accredited program and two years of structural engineering experience.
  • Experience in performing rigid bus analysis and designing electrical substation steel structures.
  • Strong knowledge of standard structural engineering techniques and procedures.
  • Strong knowledge of structural design codes (e.g., IBC, AISC, ACI, ASCE 7).
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong knowledge of structural analysis programs (e.g., RISA 3D, STAAD Pro, ETABS, SAFE).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, MicroStation, Revit, Tekla).
  • Demonstrated critical thinking skills and ability to work analytically.
  • Strong attention to detail, collaboration, organization, and problem-solving skills.
