Overview
The Chicago Department of Aviation is seeking a Construction Laborer to perform physically demanding labor and assist skilled trades workers at various construction and maintenance project sites. This position offers a starting salary of $53.00 per hour and is open to the public as well as current City employees in the relevant bargaining unit.
Responsibilities
- Prepares work sites by digging and backfilling trenches and tunnel and shaft excavations.
- Removes dirt and clears obstructions from around work areas.
- Sets and removes braces and shoring equipment and drives sheeting to support excavations.
- Installs, repairs, and/or removes concrete and masonry retaining and bearing walls.
- Demolishes old pavement, sidewalks, curbs, gutters, sewers, and catch basins as directed.
- Repairs old pavement, sidewalks, curbs, gutters, sewers, and catch basins as directed.
- Operates small backhoe, bobcat, skid steer, frontend loader, forklift, and electric and manual pallet jack as required.
- Excavates and grades ground leveling base and concrete.
