Overview
This role is for a Structural Engineer 3 at Sargent & Lundy, offering a hybrid work arrangement with three days in the office and two days remote. The position involves applying knowledge of structural engineering to power transmission modifications and upgrades, including structural analysis and design.
Responsibilities
- Apply knowledge of materials, structural analysis, structural steel design, and reinforced concrete design.
- Work on power transmission modifications and upgrades, creating calculations, document designs, and specifications.
- Investigate, troubleshoot, and solve a variety of structural engineering issues.
- Perform structural analysis and detailed design of steel frames, connections, concrete members, equipment, and foundations.
- Develop integrated structural designs and perform supporting calculations.
- Interface directly with clients and communicate technical information.
- Prepare technical specifications for structural materials.
- Review work performed by others, including calculations and drawing preparation.
- Coordinate and provide guidance to engineers, project managers, client personnel, and suppliers.
- Review existing facilities to propose upgrades and replacements, presenting findings to clients and peers.
- Engage in peer-learning and share knowledge with other experienced engineers.
- Travel to client and vendor offices for design reviews and field verification.
Requirements
- BSCE or MSCE from an ABET Engineering Accreditation Commission-approved program.
- Three or more years of experience as a practicing structural engineer, preferably on electrical substations.
- Ability to communicate effectively with clients.
- Ability to perform occasional walk-downs and attend scoping meetings.
- Experience in writing support documentation for structural engineering calculations.
- Ability to complete assignments within budget and schedule with high accuracy.
- Knowledgeable in practical application of structural engineering.
- Experience with design techniques, tools, and principles for technical plans and drawings.
- Proficiency with MathCad, STAAD PRO, SAP2000, SAFE, RISA 3D, and RISA Floor.
- Familiarity with design codes and standards such as IBC, ASCE 7, AISC, and ACI 318.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
