Overview
The Structural Engineer 3 - Grid position at Sargent & Lundy involves applying knowledge of materials, structural analysis, and design to power transmission projects. The role includes working on structural engineering issues, performing detailed designs, and collaborating with clients and team members in a hybrid work environment.
Responsibilities
- Apply knowledge of materials, structural analysis, and design.
- Work on power transmission modifications and upgrades.
- Create calculations, document designs, and specifications.
- Investigate, troubleshoot, and solve structural engineering issues.
- Perform structural analysis and detailed design of steel frames and concrete members.
- Develop integrated structural designs and perform supporting calculations.
- Interface directly with clients and communicate technical information.
- Prepare technical specifications for structural materials.
- Conduct independent reviews of work performed by others.
- Coordinate and provide guidance to engineers, project managers, and clients.
- Review existing facilities to propose upgrades and replacements.
- Travel to client and vendor offices for design reviews and field verification.
Requirements
- BSCE or MSCE from an ABET-accredited program.
- Three or more years of experience as a structural engineer.
- Ability to communicate effectively with clients.
- Experience in writing support documentation for structural calculations.
- Ability to complete assignments within budget and schedule.
- Knowledge of structural engineering applications and design integrity.
- Experience with design techniques and production of technical plans.
- Proficiency with MathCad, STAAD PRO, SAP2000, SAFE, RISA 3D, and RISA Floor.
- Familiarity with design codes such as IBC, ASCE 7, AISC, and ACI 318.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
