Overview
The Journeyman - Pipefitter Welder is responsible for setting up equipment and welding parts using various welding machines while handling the layout, assembly, installation, and repair of plumbing systems according to specifications and building codes. Responsibilities
- Sets up equipment and welding parts using arc, submerged arc, gas-shielded arc, mig and tig machines.
- Collaborates with plumbers, pipefitter/welders, sheet metal workers, and HVAC workers as required.
- Selects type and size of pipe and related materials according to job specifications and building plans.
- Studies specifications, building plans and shop drawings to determine work aids required and sequence of installation.
- Secures pipes to structure with clamps, brackets, and hangers using hand tools.
- Ensures the work area is kept clean and orderly, adhering to all safety regulations.
- Inspects the structure to ascertain obstructions to be avoided during installation.
- Lays out and marks position of pipe and passage holes for pipes in walls and floors.
- Cuts openings in walls and floors to accommodate pipe and fittings using hand and power tools.
- Installs sleeves and leave outs for roof and wall penetrations.
- Helps excavate, backfill and tamp ditches using shovels, picks and tampers.
- Cuts, reams, solders, brazes, fuses, solvent welds, grooves, threads pipe and pressfittings.
- Lays out, positions, aligns, fits, tack-welds, assembles and installs valves, hangers, pipe and fittings.
- Bends pipe by hand or with a pipe-bending machine.
- Fills pipe systems with water or air to determine system leaks.
- Installs, maintains and repairs air-conditioning and refrigeration systems.
