Overview
The Millwright Apprentice Mechanic position involves performing maintenance and repair on various types of heavy construction equipment, ensuring equipment availability through proactive preventative maintenance. Candidates should exhibit a strong work ethic, adhere to company policies, and be capable of both team and independent work.
Responsibilities
- Perform maintenance and repair of heavy construction equipment.
- Maximize equipment availability with preventative maintenance programs.
- Diagnose problems and perform mechanical repair and maintenance.
- Use diagnostic equipment to determine required repairs.
- Perform routine preventative maintenance such as lubricating and oil changes.
- Create work orders on repairs and services.
- Maintain various types of equipment including conveyors and crushers.
- Inspect equipment and complete inspection reports.
- Test mechanical products and equipment after repair.
- Operate and inspect machines to diagnose defects.
- Clean and lubricate equipment.
- Examine parts for damage or excessive wear.
- Schedule maintenance for industrial machines and keep service records.
- Read and understand operating manuals.
- Overhaul and test machines for operating efficiency.
- Assemble gear systems and align frames and gears.
- Fit bearings to adjust or repair mechanical equipment.
- Weld or solder broken parts using appropriate tools.
- Clean parts with grease solvent or in tanks of solvent.
- Rebuild or fabricate parts.
- Comply with environmental, health, and safety policies.
- Keep work area and tools neat and clean.
- Perform other duties as directed by supervisor.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Training from an accredited technical school preferred.
- Apprentice – less than 2 years of experience.
- Mechanic I – 2 years of experience with 1 to 3 relevant certifications.
- Mechanic II – 2 to 5 years of experience with 4 or more relevant certifications.
- Excellent computer skills for diagnostics and maintenance records.
- Analytical skills to identify and solve mechanical problems.
- Ability to read technical manuals and understand schematic diagrams.
- Must be drug free.
- Position requires moderately strenuous physical work.
Additional Information
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 40 pounds occasionally.
- Must be able to push or pull up to a maximum force of 100 pounds occasionally.
- Must be able to climb in and out of equipment 50+ times per day.
- Must be able to work in extreme hot and cold weather conditions.
- Environment varies from outdoor construction sites to a normal office environment.
