Overview
This National Guard position is for a Welder (Title 32) (Permanent) and is part of the VA G4, National Guard. The role involves performing various welding duties and fabricating metal items.
Responsibilities
- Performs welding duties using electric, acetylene, and/or inert gas shielded welding processes.
- Repairs, modifies, or fabricates metal items using templates, jigs, and blueprints.
- Makes numerous types of joints on light and heavy equipment.
- Welds or reinforces heavy armor plate.
- Performs precision welding on jigs, dies, engineering and automotive equipment.
- Brazes dissimilar metals and flame cuts metal to size for fabrication.
- Utilizes basic sheet metal tools and equipment to repair and fabricate various equipment.
- Reads and interprets blueprints and sketches.
- Lays out, positions, and clamps work; selects type of rod and size of tip for welding.
- Determines heat necessary and adjusts equipment accordingly.
- Maintains proper speed, flame motion, tip and angle for desired welding pattern.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
