Overview
The WELDER LEADER (PIPE EXPERT) position at PORTSMOUTH NAVAL SHIPYARD involves leading a team of welders in the Structural Shop to ensure high-quality welding work on experimental metals and alloys. The role includes modifying procedures, inspecting work, and keeping the team updated on new technologies.
Responsibilities
- Weld recently developed or experimental metals and alloys.
- Modify welding procedures and recommend suitable metals and alloys for new applications.
- Aid junior Pipe Welders to improve their first-time success rate in welding.
- Inspect completed and in-process work for quality and adherence to specifications.
- Ensure availability of plans, blueprints, materials, and tools for jobs.
- Keep shop personnel informed of new technologies and tooling improvements.
