Overview

This position is for a Pipefitter at the Edward Hines Jr. Veterans Hospital in Hines, IL, which is a complexity level 1a VHA facility. The role involves working with various types of pipes and fittings, performing installation, maintenance, and repair tasks related to plumbing and steam systems.

Responsibilities

• Repair, adjust, maintain, and install all types of plumbing and steam fixtures and their allied equipment.
• Perform new installations of plumbing and steam equipment from layout to finished job.
• Repair, maintain, adjust, install, and improve plumbing and heating equipment such as meters, valves, compressors, and pumps.
• Repair, install, and maintain pipe insulation of various materials.
• Repair, test, and install various types of piping systems including water, fire main, air, gas, vacuum, and drainage.
• Install, repair, and maintain various types of hospital equipment assigned to the Plumbing Shop.
• Repair and maintain heating systems including piping, convectors, coils, and circulating pumps.
• Perform preventive maintenance activities.
• Fit and install new hospital and laboratory plumbing fixtures.
• Repair, maintain, and install vacuum pumps, compressed air pumps, and water circulating pumps.
• Maintain stock levels of repair parts and supplies and order replacement parts.
• Maintain, repair, test, and install outside plumbing systems.
• Install and repair gas-fired equipment assigned to the Plumbing Shop.
• May be assigned to the station's steam production plant for operational duties.
