Job Description

Overview

The Pipefitter position is located at the VA Oklahoma City Health Care System and involves working under the supervision of the Construction Foreman and Construction Supervisor of Engineering Service. The role requires interpreting blueprints, troubleshooting piping systems, and ensuring safe installations.

Responsibilities

  • Reads and comprehends blueprints and sketches.
  • Interprets building plans and technical manuals.
  • Properly braces and supports to control movement and vibration.
  • Troubleshoots, traces, and eliminates difficult problems.
  • Performs repairs on various piping systems and equipment.
  • Accurate measurement and calculation for cutting, threading, and bending pipes.
  • Determines angles, tolerances, and proper pipe alignment for leak-free installation.
  • Validates and compares actual vs. design dimensions.
  • Follows strict protocols when working with flammable, toxic, or high-pressure media.
  • Performs pipefitting/plumbing trade methods and techniques.
  • Proficient at brazing joints.
  • Installs and modifies piping and fittings for various systems including plumbing, sewage, medical gas, and fire sprinkler systems.
  • Installs pressure relief valves, check valves, pressure regulators, and other devices.
  • Plans, sets up, installs, and modifies low and high-pressure piping.
  • Uses a variety of tools for installation, repair, and maintenance of piping systems.

Additional Information

  • Work Schedule: Full-Time, Monday - Friday, 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM
  • Physical Requirements: Frequently handles heavy materials over 45 pounds and requires physical effort typical of industrial construction trades.
  • Working Conditions: Performed inside and outside under various conditions including heat, cold, and noise.
