Job Description

Overview

This position is responsible for fabricating, assembling, and repairing metal structures and equipment using various tools and welding techniques. The role requires a strong understanding of welding processes, blueprint reading, and metal fabrication methods, along with mentoring junior welders and ensuring quality work on job sites.

Responsibilities

  • Pre-heats and cleans metals.
  • Lays out, cuts, and fits materials for welding.
  • Cuts, bends, and welds metal components using manual or semi-automatic welding equipment.
  • Fabrics metal structures and components according to design specifications.
  • Performs MIG, TIG, Stick (SMAW), and/or Flux-Core welding depending on project requirements.
  • Performs cutting and welding operations on structural steel, pipe and fittings, crankcases, radiators, tanks, brackets, etc.
  • Interprets and follows technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications.
  • Inspects, brushes, and grinds welds.
  • Lays out welding work and makes simple estimates of time and material requirements.
  • Operates various hand and power tools (e.g., grinders, shears, saws).
  • Measures and inspects finished workpieces to ensure conformance to specifications.
  • Maintains equipment and tools in safe, clean working conditions.
  • Follows all safety procedures and maintains a clean work environment.
  • Researches and maintains technical competency and continuing education for certifications.
  • Climbs ladders periodically to access building roofs.
  • Works early morning, evening, weekend, and emergency events as required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • May be required to be on call after hours as part of a weekly rotation.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Three (3) years of welding experience.
  • Proficiency in MIG, TIG, and/or Stick welding techniques on Steel, Copper, and Aluminum.
  • A Class A License.
  • Valid Texas Driver’s License and a good driving record.
  • Knowledge of all tools, equipment, techniques, terminology, and materials of the welding trade.
  • Knowledge of hazards, safety procedures, and equipment as they apply to the welding trade.
  • Knowledge of metallurgy.
  • Knowledge of basic design practices.
  • Skill in operating tools used in the welding trade.
  • Skill in operating equipment used in the welding trade.
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to make decisions and prioritize assignments.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations.
  • Ability to read plans and blueprints.
  • Ability to meet all the physical requirements of the position.

Additional Information

  • Full-Time | Regular | 40 hours per week.
  • Subject to early mornings, late evenings, weekends, and holidays at times.
  • Most assignments will be performed in a shop or construction site environment.
  • Physical demands include bending, stooping, and lifting to 25 lbs.
