Overview
The Welding Program Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the implementation, maintenance, and compliance of welding programs, procedures, and personnel qualifications in accordance with applicable codes, standards, and customer specifications. This role ensures the highest standards of welding quality and safety while supporting production goals and continuous improvement initiatives at TAS Energy Inc.
Responsibilities
- Supervise and coordinate all aspects of the facility’s welding program.
- Ensure all welding activities are performed in accordance with AWS, ASME, and/or other relevant standards.
- Maintain a current database of qualified welders, expiration dates, and requalification schedules.
- Oversee welder testing, certification, and training programs.
- Coordinate welding audits and prepare related documentation.
- Function as the subject matter expert (SME) for welding processes and techniques.
- Collaborate with inspectors to monitor weld quality and adherence to procedures.
- Drive continuous improvement in welding processes for efficiency and quality.
- Ensure adherence to all company safety policies and promote a safety-first culture.
- Supervise welder/auditor testers and their activities.
- Provide training and guidance to welding personnel.
- Interface with other company departments to request and receive reports.
- Identify and resolve issues related to welding processes and equipment.
- Maintain and update the calibration logs.
- Assist with internal and external ISO 3834 audits.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Quality.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Welding Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related field or equivalent work experience.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in welding operations and standards, with at least 2 years in a leadership role.
- Strong knowledge of welding processes (e.g., GMAW, FCAW, GTAW).
- Excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
- Clear and effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Competent in MS Office Suite, particularly Excel and PowerPoint.
- Familiarity with industry codes and standards (AWS D1.1, ASME Section IX).
- Proven ability to operate with integrity and manage confidential information.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Proficient in reading blueprints, weld symbols, and technical specifications.
- Strong leadership and people skills.
Additional Information
- Position is at least 40% to 50% at a desk working with a computer and the remaining time spent in a shop environment.
- Ability to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently.
- The incumbent will be subject to inside environmental conditions.
