Overview

The Water Utility Worker is responsible for installing, maintaining, operating, replacing, and repairing water mains, services, fire hydrants, water meters, and related equipment in the Department of Water and Power. The position requires specific qualifications and experience in the field of potable water services.

Responsibilities

  • Install, maintain, operate, replace, and repair water mains and services.
  • Work on fire hydrants and water meters.
  • Handle appurtenant valves and equipment.

Requirements

  • Eighteen months of full-time paid experience in the installation and either operation and/or maintenance of potable water services and pipelines.
  • Experience must include working with mains and/or trunk lines of at least 6 inches in diameter.
  • A valid Class B (or A) driver’s license issued by the California DMV is required.
  • A California State Water Resources Control Board Distribution Operator Grade D2 certificate may be required prior to completion of the probationary period.
