Job Description

Overview

The Painter position is located in the Department of Veterans Affairs at the West Los Angeles Medical Center Campuses within the Engineering Service. The primary responsibility is to work alongside other painters to cover over 1 million square feet of conditioned space.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare coating materials using various trade devices.
  • Use a trowel for spreading mortar and finishing joints.
  • Ensure coating finishes meet texture, decorative, thickness, and level requirements.
  • Perform duties of a journeyman Painter and assist with carpentry and masonry.
  • Prepare surfaces by smoothing, filling, shaping, and leveling.
  • Maintain, repair, or construct curbs and occasionally walls.
  • Remove damaged portions of walls or partitions for repair.
  • Operate a variety of hand and power tools safely and effectively.
  • Ensure proper proportions of materials are used for desired consistency.
  • Shape and level surfaces with resins, plastics, and patching compounds.

Requirements

  • Must show evidence of training or experience relevant to the position.
  • Ability to perform work without more than normal supervision.
  • Ability to interpret instructions and specifications.
  • Knowledge of materials and painting technical practices.
  • Experience can include paid and unpaid work, including volunteer experience.

  • Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 3:00 P.M - 11:30 PM.
  • Physical requirements include working from ladders and scaffolds.
  • Frequent lifting of materials and equipment up to 10 pounds, occasionally up to 40 pounds.
