Overview

The State of California is seeking a CALTRANS HEAVY EQUIPMENT MECHANIC to work under the direction of a Highway Mechanic Supervisor, performing various tasks related to the maintenance and repair of heavy equipment used in the Department's fleet. This position emphasizes a drug-free workplace and equal opportunity employment.

Responsibilities

• Construct, inspect, diagnose, repair, and service various equipment in the Department's fleet.
• Complete various records and reports.
• Use computer equipment for various tasks.
• Assist in instructing or giving direction to helpers, apprentices, or other employees.
• Assume responsibility for the proper use and handling of materials, tools, equipment, and facilities.
• Work in inclement weather and travel to field locations as necessary.
• Assist with the daily operation of the shop.

Requirements

• Possession of a valid California Drivers License (CDL).
• Must pass a Drug Screening prior to being hired.
• Possession of a valid Class C driver’s license.
• Must provide detailed work experience on the application.
• Verification of Minimum Qualifications will be conducted prior to interview.
