Overview

The Fleet Mechanic position at Nicor Gas involves maintaining and repairing fleet vehicles and equipment to ensure they are safe, reliable, and serviceable. The role includes performing preventive and corrective maintenance activities and requires a Commercial Driver's License.

Responsibilities

  • Perform all fleet vehicle and equipment preventive maintenance according to defined procedures.
  • Conduct electric system diagnostics and repairs on fleet vehicles and equipment.
  • Diagnose and solve drivability problems for gasoline vehicles.
  • Perform brake system diagnostics, repairs, and component replacements.
  • Transport fleet vehicles and equipment between service locations and perform fueling tasks.
  • Assist with fleet helper back-up and other assigned duties.
  • Inform supervisors of maintenance issues outside of qualifications.
  • Organize daily work assignments and record time, material, and service charges.
  • Identify unsafe conditions and inform relevant personnel.
  • Engage courteously with fleet and business unit personnel regarding maintenance activities.
  • Collaborate with third-party service providers and safety personnel.
  • Execute responsibilities to ensure fleet vehicle availability and reliability.
  • Initiate improvements to enhance departmental efficiencies.
  • Provide updates on pending fleet vehicle and maintenance activities.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Commercial Driver's License class A with air brake endorsement.
  • Must self-furnish tools as per company requirements.
  • Pass company in-house Fleet Services Mechanic Certification test.
  • A.S.E. certifications (minimum of 4, with at least 3 in specified areas).
  • 2-3 years' experience in automotive work or equivalent education.
  • Reading, writing, and computer skills for record-keeping.
  • Ability to comprehend training on communication with customers.
  • Ability to obtain and retain required driving and safety certifications.
  • Ability to complete hands-on training for preventive maintenance procedures.

Additional Information

  • Position located at Ottawa, Joliet, Aurora fleet facilities.
  • Must be available to work 2nd shift (approximately 1:30 pm-10:00 pm Monday thru Friday).
