Overview
The Maintenance Mechanic II - Water position involves skilled maintenance work, inspection, troubleshooting, and assisting in the repair of various equipment at water/wastewater treatment plants or pump stations. The role requires independent judgment to identify and remedy problems, with opportunities for advancement within the maintenance department.
Responsibilities
- Perform preventative and corrective maintenance and repair to buildings, machinery, and equipment.
- Conduct general maintenance of grounds including mowing, edging, and operation of related equipment.
- Perform industrial maintenance duties such as carpentry, painting, pipefitting, plumbing, and welding.
- Read and understand system drawings and schematics with minimal supervision.
- Maintain thorough and complete process records and logs.
- Utilize computer applications and software effectively.
- Observe all safety guidelines and security measures.
- Provide operational, technical, and safety training to junior maintenance mechanics.
- Respond to emergency situations as directed by supervisor.
- Assist in the safe handling and unloading of chemicals in the plant.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- Two years of experience in industrial maintenance, vehicle repair, and construction.
- Experience in mechanical applications such as hydraulic systems and pump maintenance.
- Valid Texas driver's license; commercial driver's license preferred.
- Texas Commission on Environmental Quality Class C Water or Wastewater Operators Certificate of Competency required if applicable.
- Water-Surface Water Treatment Operator 'C' License required within 3 years of hire date if applicable.
- Considerable knowledge of mechanics, plumbing, and underground piping installations.
- Basic computer skills and ability to comprehend written and oral instructions.
