Overview
The City of Glenn Heights is seeking applicants for a full-time Utility Worker I position. This role involves maintaining parks and constructing water distribution, wastewater collection, streets, and storm water systems throughout the city.
Responsibilities
- Locates, installs, maintains and repairs water distribution and wastewater collection lines using hand tools and heavy equipment.
- Operates power tools such as air impact wrenches and hydraulic jack hammers.
- Performs skilled duties using hand tools, including picks, shovels, and chain saws.
- Transports heavy equipment and materials to and from job sites.
- Performs general road maintenance including mixing concrete and placing asphalt mix.
- Inspects equipment and performs preventive maintenance or repairs as needed.
- Assists meter readers with reading and recording water meters.
- Confers with customers regarding service problems and reports feedback to supervisor.
Requirements
- High School diploma or GED equivalent.
- Valid Class 'C' Driver's License.
- Basic knowledge of maintenance and emergency repair.
- Proficient knowledge of methods, techniques and safety precautions for operating heavy equipment.
- Ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships with various stakeholders.
- Basic understanding of problem solving and conflict management techniques.
- Basic understanding of excellent customer relations practices.
- Basic skills to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.

Additional Information
- Work requires frequent stooping, climbing, and lifting up to 100 pounds.
- Incumbent may be required to work nights and weekends during extreme weather and emergency situations.
