Overview

The Fabrication-Heat Treat Operator is responsible for heat treating and age hardening steel and aluminum production parts and their alloys. The role requires expertise in heat treating methods, aircraft sheet metal finishing, and the ability to interpret blueprints and specifications.

Responsibilities

  • Determine the heat treat process and quenching required for production parts.
  • Heat treat production steel and aluminum parts, tooling parts, dies, and stock.
  • Operate hand or power equipment to change furnace or bath and quenching.
  • Check and maintain heat treat solutions.
  • Operate age hardening ovens and set controls for proper heat and time.
  • Record treatment methods for future reference.
  • Select and place shims to correct out of tolerance conditions.

Requirements

  • Four years of experience in heat treating and aircraft sheet metal finishing.
  • Ability to read and interpret detail and assembly blueprints.
  • Familiarity with heat treat specifications and nomenclature.
  • Completion of an industrial-based machine shop training program may offset six months of experience.
  • Documented heat treat experience with processes such as annealing and quenching.
