Job Description

Overview

The Pipe Welder Journeyman position involves planning, laying out, welding, installing, testing, and repairing various types of pipe and tubular products according to industry standards and specifications. The role requires skilled experience and the ability to work independently with precision.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, diagram and lay-out for pipe welder’s work
  • Coordinate with field labor crew for efficient installations
  • Position the weld set up, fit the piping and perform welds involving a high degree of precision independently
  • Lay-out and assemble pipes accurately according to production standards and specifications
  • Make welding repairs and substandard welds
  • Assist with coordination of any Pre-Fabrication layout or installation
  • Assist with rigging of material
  • Operate air arc gouger, grinder, stress relieving machine, and other industry machines, tools and equipment
  • Estimate sizes, distances, and quantities needed for work activities
  • Inspect subordinate's work for compliance with contract plans and specifications

Requirements

  • May require a high school diploma or equivalent with previous experience in the field or a related area
  • Must possess strong working knowledge skills and abilities for the position
  • Ability to understand, follow and transmit written and oral instructions and communicate effectively
  • Proficient in the safe and efficient use of electrical, hand tools, power tools, layout tools, and measurement tools
  • Must be able to complete tasks in a noisy and dusty environment
  • Must pass weld test with quality
  • U.S. Driver's License may be required
  • Ability to pass pre-access drug, alcohol and fit-for-duty testing

Additional Information

  • Constantly moves about a construction/industrial site and may be required to work in changing outdoor weather conditions
  • Work irregular hours, weekends, overtime, and holidays as required
  • May be required to use ladders/mechanical platforms/manlifts/scaffold to access required equipment/work areas
  • Must be able to move and work in and around confined and cluttered places, and uneven surfaces
  • May be required to move items weighing up to 50 pounds across construction/industrial site
