Overview
Technique is seeking a Prototype Welding Technician for its Jackson, Michigan facility. The role involves using MIG/TIG welding equipment for stainless and carbon steel, supporting quality assurance, and adhering to safety procedures.
Responsibilities
- Set up and operate welding equipment for GTAW & GMAW mild steel joints.
- Identify materials and manage fixtures for welding processes.
- Operate the Projection Welder, troubleshooting and adjusting settings as needed.
- Perform 1st piece table layouts with a basic understanding of GD&T.
- Troubleshoot prototype welding builds by identifying and resolving issues.
- Process job folders and complete quality documentation for each build.
- Assemble and verify prototype fixtures for accuracy before quality approval.
- Load and run the robot welder in auto mode and repair assemblies post-welding.
- Interpret and act on CMM reports to ensure quality builds.
- Weld stainless and mild steel to AWS specifications meeting customer expectations.
- Use E2 to locate information and support daily operations.
- Develop and evaluate team members to produce quality products.
- Participate in safety functions and follow all safety procedures.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED required; vocational training preferred.
- AWS Certification preferred.
- Minimum 2 years of welding experience in an industrial setting; 2–4 years preferred for Level 3, 5–8 years for Level 4.
- Prototype or fabrication welding experience preferred.
- Basic understanding of GD&T and print reading; intermediate to advanced understanding preferred.
- Basic understanding of hand tools and layout/inspection tools; advanced understanding preferred.
- Ability to frequently lift and/or move items over 50 pounds.
- Active position requiring physical activities like standing, walking, bending, and climbing.
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, and depth perception.
- Comfortable working in a manufacturing environment with exposure to various hazards.

Additional Information
- This is a full-time, non-exempt position with a minimum of 40 hours per week.
