Overview

Union Pacific is seeking experienced mechanics or those looking to start their career to work on their diesel locomotive fleet in Houston, TX. The primary objective is to ensure the safe and efficient servicing of locomotives while adhering to company and federal standards.

Responsibilities

• Efficiently operate equipment including measuring instruments, precision machines, hand tools, and material handling equipment.
• Communicate technical information and job procedures with others verbally and in writing.
• Read and interpret information from diagrams, schematics, graphs, and charts.
• Ensure all equipment or materials are available and ready for use.
• Develop and maintain positive working relationships with coworkers and supervisors.
• Ensure compliance with all railroad rules and regulations for safety and operations.
• Diagnose malfunctions in diesel engines and other locomotive mechanical systems.
• Repair, replace, or rebuild locomotives and diesel engine components.
• Inspect and service the diesel locomotives fleet within compliance of standards.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• Possess a valid driver's license.
• Proficient verbal and written communication skills.
• At least 4 years of education or work experience as a mechanic or a current journeyman's mechanical card.
• Experience in conducting quick and accurate visual inspections.
• Ability to read and comprehend instructions and federal regulatory documents.
• Willingness to relocate and work at designated locations.
• Commitment to practicing safe work habits.
• Must successfully complete an assessment in English.
