Overview
The Maintenance Worker position involves assisting in the routine maintenance, operation, and repair of public buildings and structures, including conducting inspections and performing minor repairs. The role requires a valid NYS Motor Vehicle Driver's License and may involve working at various satellite offices across the five boroughs of NYCHA.
Responsibilities
- Maintain, adjust, and make minor repairs of building electrical devices and related CCTV equipment.
- Make minor repairs to masonry, woodwork, flooring, and walls.
- Make minor repairs to building electrical and plumbing systems in common areas and satellite offices.
- Assist in relocating building equipment as directed.
- Visually inspect public buildings, structures, and equipment for defects and hazardous conditions.
- Prepare reports and keep records.
- Assist law enforcement and governmental agencies with investigations and video evidence.
- Appear and testify in court regarding video authenticity.
- Operate a motor vehicle to travel to and from work sites.
- Remove and install equipment that requires lifting and moving.
- Respond to after-hours emergencies for the Office of Safety and Security.
Requirements
- Three years of full-time satisfactory experience in the electrical or mechanical trades, or building maintenance.
- At least two years of experience plus sufficient training or education in relevant trades to equal three years of experience.
- A valid NYS Driver’s License.
- Ability to respond to after-hours CCTV emergencies.
- Computer skills to navigate closed circuit television software.
- Excellent mechanical skills.
- Knowledge of CCTV systems.
- Electrical experience preferred.
- Knowledge of layered access control systems and magnetic door locks.
