Overview

The WELDER LEADER (PIPE EXPERT) position at PORTSMOUTH NAVAL SHIPYARD involves leading a team of welders in the Structural Shop to ensure efficient completion of welding assignments, particularly with experimental metals and alloys.

Responsibilities

  • Weld recently developed or experimental metals and alloys.
  • Modify welding procedures and recommend suitable metals and alloys for applications.
  • Aid junior Pipe Welders to improve first-time success rates.
  • Inspect completed and in-process work for quality and adherence to specifications.
  • Ensure availability of plans, blueprints, materials, and tools for jobs.
  • Keep shop personnel informed of new technologies and tooling improvements.

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
  • Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.
  • Must pass the E-Verify employment verification check.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • Must obtain and maintain a security clearance.
  • Ability to lead or supervise.
  • Experience in modifying welding procedures and working with experimental materials.
  • Ability to recognize and control safety hazards.

Additional Information

  • Work may require an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Position may require travel to CONUS and OCONUS locations.
