Overview

The Tacker 2 position involves welding metal components using the TIG process. Candidates must pass a Tacker Test and visual inspection, and will be responsible for various welding tasks while adhering to safety practices.

Responsibilities

  • Manually guides electrode or gun along weld line to form specified depth of fusion and bead.
  • Obtains specified electrode and inserts it into portable holder or threads consumable electrode wire through welding gun.
  • Connects cables from welding unit to obtain specified amperage, voltage, slope, and pulse.
  • Starts power supply to produce electric current.
  • Strikes arc to generate heat for depositing metal from electrode to work piece.
  • Welds in flat, horizontal, vertical, or overhead positions.
  • Cleans or degreases weld joint or work piece using appropriate tools.
  • Repairs broken or cracked parts and fills holes.
  • Prepares broken parts for welding by grooving or scarfing surfaces.
  • Chips off excess weld, slag, and spatter using hand scraper or power chipper.
  • Preheats work piece using hand torch or heating furnace.
  • Positions and clamps work pieces together or assembles them in jig or fixture.
  • Tacks assemblies together as needed.
  • Cuts metal plates or structural shapes.
  • Passes employer performance tests or standard tests to meet certification standards.
  • Performs jobs only on which they have been trained and/or authorized.
  • Works in accordance with safe job practices and complies with company safety rules.
  • Uses required personal protective equipment.
  • Reports unsafe conditions or practices.
  • Cooperates during investigation of any accidents that occur.
  • Participates in safety meetings, pre-job safety briefings, task hazard analyses, and Job Safety Analyses.
  • Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform job functions.
  • Works under minimum supervision and typically reports to a supervisor.

Requirements

  • Successfully pass the on-site Tacker Test: Tig 2” schedule 80 in a 5G position.
  • Must pass visual inspection and x-ray.
