Overview
This entry-level position is for a trainee inspector who will learn to perform basic inspection and sampling work in the field, complete necessary paperwork, distribute samples correctly, and maintain timely communication with office staff.
Responsibilities
- Complete all necessary safety and orientation training required to access customer facilities.
- Shadow assigned senior inspector or training person and learn basic inspection and sampling requirements.
- Read and follow all American Petroleum Institute (API) and IFIA procedures as well as customer and company policies.
- Perform basic inspection and sampling work in the field according to industry and customer requirements.
- Carry out all assigned tasks in accordance with the latest industry standards and practices.
- Maintain required communications with office staff and keep them updated of any changes.
- Prepare and distribute all field reports to vessels, terminals, and the office as assigned.
- Ensure proper identification and timely transportation of samples obtained during activities.
- Perform other similar tasks as assigned by supervisor.
Requirements
- High school diploma and/or related experience in the industry.
- Ability to read, write, and communicate in English.
- Basic math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
- Familiarity with basic computer skills in word processing and spreadsheet programs.
- Must have unrestricted use of a licensed and insured vehicle in good operating condition.
- Must possess a valid current driving license and meet AmSpec Safe Driving Policy requirements.
- Must be ready to accept job assignments at any time, including scheduled days off.
- Must be willing to work shifts if required by location.
- Must be able to work in refineries, terminals, and on-board marine vessels.
- Attendance at monthly safety meetings is required.
- TWIC Card may be required to access terminals, refineries, and other sites.
Additional Information
- Safety Sensitive position requiring pre-employment, random, and annual drug and alcohol testing.
- Must comply with AmSpec D&A Policy.
- Must pass an annual Pulmonary Fitness Test and physical examination.
- Must qualify annually for a Respirator Fit Test and blood test for hydrocarbon vapors.
- Ability to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions.
- Local and long-distance travel may be required.
