Overview
The Area Blaster Trainee will prioritize safety in accordance with MSHA and Vulcan standards while planning and designing shots to optimize production. This role involves compliance with regulations regarding drilling and blasting, ensuring adherence to Vulcan blasting standards, and managing shot loading processes.
Responsibilities
- Champion safety throughout the operation.
- Plan and design shots to optimize production.
- Ensure compliance with air overpressure, ground vibration, and regulatory requirements.
- Load shots according to plan and adjust patterns for optimization.
- Measure and audit the accuracy of drilling operations and drill logs.
- Direct vendor bulk truck drivers and Vulcan shot helpers during shot loading.
- Perform administrative duties related to the blasting program.
- Complete computer generated shot reports and manage surveys.
- Review and analyze all shots on video and complete shot layout diagrams.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Must have the ability to become licensed or certified by any applicable Federal or State regulatory entity.
- Must possess or have the ability to obtain and maintain necessary state blasting license.
- Must have the ability to obtain and maintain ATF employee possessor status.
- Must have a minimum of three years’ experience in aggregate surface mining.
- Must have acceptable performance, maintenance, and safety history.
- Must have knowledge of mine drilling and blasting standards, production techniques, and equipment.
- Must be able to work overtime and extended hours.
- Must be able to work outside in all types of weather conditions.
- Must have computer skills.
