Overview
The Structural Welder Journeyman will plan, lay-out, weld, install, and repair various structural steel products according to industry standards and specifications. This position requires intermediate experience and involves working in construction environments with exposure to outdoor conditions.
Responsibilities
- Set-up, troubleshoot and operate welding machines according to job specifications and welding procedures.
- Preheat and weld metal components as specified by blue prints, welding symbols, job specifications, or welding procedures.
- Weld using various processes including FCAW-S, FCAW-G, TGAW, GMAW, SMAW, and SAW.
- Operate air arc gouger, grinder, stress relieving machine, and other industry machines, tools and equipment.
- Make welding repairs and correct substandard welds.
Requirements
- May require a high school diploma or its equivalent with previous experience in the field or a related area.
- Must possess working knowledge, skills, and abilities for the position.
- Ability to understand, follow and transmit written and oral instructions and communicate effectively with management/supervision.
- Ability to use hand tools, power tools, and layout tools safely and efficiently.
Additional Information
- The position requires constant movement about a construction/industrial site.
- Must be able to work in changing outdoor weather conditions.
- Work irregular hours, weekends, overtime, and holidays as required.
- May need to use ladders, mechanical platforms, manlifts, or scaffolds to access work areas.
- Must be able to complete tasks in a noisy and dusty environment.
- May be required to move items weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Must have all required tools.
- Must pass a weld test with quality.
- A U.S. Driver's License may be required.
- Must pass pre-access drug, alcohol, and fit-for-duty testing.
