Overview

The 3G4G Structural Welder at Acadian Contractors, Inc. is a full-time, shop-based role focused on producing high-quality welds on structural steel assemblies using FCAW. The position requires expertise in vertical and overhead welding, ensuring adherence to safety and quality standards.

Responsibilities

• Produce groove welds in 3G and 4G positions on structural steel plate using FCAW.
• Maintain machine setup discipline and verify parameters against the WPS.
• Produce fillet welds in all positions on structural connections as per fabrication drawings.
• Control interpass temperature and ensure it is within WPS-specified range.
• Perform thorough weld preparation and reject improperly fitted components.
• Conduct inter-pass slag removal and inspect each pass visually.
• Apply preheat as required by AWS D1.1 or WPS for applicable base metal grades.
• Perform post-weld visual inspection of completed welds against AWS D1.1 criteria.
• Read and interpret fabrication drawings and weld symbols without repeated explanation.
• Respond to NDE findings and perform necessary repairs as per WPS.
• Stage and position workpieces correctly for welding.
• Maintain a clean and organized welding station.
• Operate welding equipment and report any issues immediately.
• Participate in daily safety briefings and follow all safety requirements.
• Accurately complete weld log entries as required by the project quality plan.
• Mentor Welder Helpers and Apprentice Welders assigned to the booth.

Requirements

• Current AWS D1.1 Structural Welding qualification in 3G position.
• Current AWS D1.1 Structural Welding qualification in 4G position required within 90 days of hire.
• Minimum 2 years of FCAW structural welding experience in a production fabrication environment.
• Demonstrated ability to produce welds meeting AWS D1.1 visual acceptance criteria.
• Ability to read weld symbols per AWS A2.4 and interpret fabrication drawings.
• Must pass pre-employment background check and drug/alcohol screen.
• Must be authorized to work in the United States.
