Overview
The Carpenter1 is responsible for constructing, erecting, installing, and repairing structures and fixtures of wood, plywood, cement, and wallboard using carpenter’s hand tools and power tools.
Responsibilities
- Measure and mark cutting lines on materials using a ruler, pencil, chalk, and marking gauge.
- Shape or cut materials to specified measurements using hand tools, machines, or power saws.
- Install structures or fixtures such as frames, floorings, trim or hardware using carpenters hand tools.
- Build tunnel bracing or partitions in underground passageways to control the circulation of air to worksites.
- Build concrete forms for tunnels, bridges, power plants, or sewer construction.
- Help erect, level, and install building framework with the aid of rigging hardware and cranes.
- Perform daily maintenance and safety checks.
- Ensure compliance of all safety procedures and policies while promoting company’s safety culture.
- Perform other duties as requested, directed, or assigned.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- At least 3 years’ experience as a Carpenter.
- Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in construction.
- Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair and maintenance.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints.
- Knowledge of arithmetic.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Exercise discretion and independent judgement when handling day to day information.
- Excellent time-management skills to plan, organize, and prioritize tasks and responsibilities to meet deadlines and adjust to changing priorities.
- Ability to work cooperatively across all levels delivering on commitments – results oriented.
- Ability to complete work with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Ability to work under pressure to meet department targets and deadlines.
- Ability to work non-routine hours, when necessary.
- Ability and willingness to travel as required.
Additional Information
- Ability to work outdoors, exposed to heat and humidity, cold and rain, and around heavy traffic areas.
- Moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another.
- Ability to operate job related tools.
- Constantly perform repeating motions that may include feet, leg, wrists, hands and/or fingers.
- Work that includes moving and/or lifting objects up to 50 pounds, carry at least 30 pounds and up to 150 pounds with help.
