Overview

WSP is seeking a Lead Structural Engineer (Generation) to join their Power & Energy team in various locations including Houston, TX. The role involves working on power generation projects and contributing to a growing organization focused on energy transition.

Responsibilities

  • Design light foundations and structures for solar farms, battery energy storage facilities, and substation projects.
  • Design heavy foundations and structures for large power generation projects including generators, turbines, and transformers.
  • Design structural steel systems for buildings and equipment supports.
  • Coordinate design requirements with drafter/designers.
  • Occasionally travel to clients and project sites to interface with clients and monitor construction progress.
  • Interact with regulatory agencies, subcontractors, and clients professionally.
  • Collaborate with engineers and infrastructure authorities on improvement and development projects.
  • Exercise responsible decision-making regarding company resources and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
  • 7+ years of relevant post-education experience in engineering discipline and prior structural or civil design experience.
  • PE license.
  • Proficient with structural engineering principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of relevant structural and civil construction laws, codes, and compliance practices.
  • Experience with power generation, transmission, and distribution projects.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated self-leadership with attention to detail and prioritization skills.
  • Proficient with technical writing and design software such as MicroStation, AutoCAD, RISA, STADD.
  • Well-developed critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience coordinating subcontractors to complete tasks safely and efficiently.
  • Knowledge of geotechnical engineering.
  • Experience with pre-engineered metal building systems.
  • Experience with seismic analysis and design.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety policies.
  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements.
  • Open to longer duration field assignments of 1 to 18 months.

  • 5%-10% travel may be required.
