Overview
The Diesel Fleet Mechanic Technician III is responsible for ensuring safe, reliable, and cost-efficient vehicles through preventive maintenance inspections and expert repairs. This role focuses on maximizing fleet reliability and minimizing downtime by performing thorough diagnostics and repairs on various vehicle systems.
Responsibilities
- Perform required inspections and preventive maintenance on vehicles and equipment.
- Conduct FAI/CVI (Annual) inspections on all fleet vehicles and company-owned equipment.
- Execute quality preventive maintenance inspections per company methods.
- Carry out quality maintenance repairs to maximize safety and reliability.
- Perform preventive maintenance, diagnosis, and repair on refrigeration units.
- Address Driver Vehicle Inspection Report write-ups in a timely manner.
- Diagnose malfunctions and perform repairs to manufacturer specifications.
- Document all work performed on work orders.
- Mentor and teach Fleet Technician I and II.
- May perform moderate supervisory roles when Fleet Manager or Supervisors are unavailable.
- Conduct electrical meter testing and complete electrical repairs and welding projects as needed.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Current and valid driver's license (CDL Preferred, Not Required).
- Medium / Heavy Duty truck technical training.
- 2-year school and 4 years of experience OR 5 years of experience in fleet maintenance and repair.
- Annual Inspector Certification.
- Brake Inspector Certification.
- ASE certifications & Automotive or Medium/Heavy Duty Trucks.
- EPA section 608 (Core & Type II) and 609 HVAC & Refrigeration Certification.
- Expert knowledge of all vehicle systems and components.
- Expert knowledge in diagnosis and repair of electrical systems.
- Expert knowledge in diagnosis and repair of refrigeration systems.
- Expert knowledge in Preventive Maintenance Inspections and repair.
- Moderate knowledge in welding and cutting.
- Moderate computer skills and knowledge.
- Expert knowledge of all DOT (FMCSA) regulations.
- Moderate knowledge of OSHA safety regulations.
- Moderate knowledge of environmental regulations.
- Working knowledge of computer-based diagnostic software.
- Must provide own tools necessary for maintenance repair and diagnostics.
Additional Information
- The associate works non-traditional business hours including evenings, nights, weekends, holidays, and on-call.
- The associate may occasionally be required to travel to other Operating Companies or the corporate office.
- The associate is occasionally exposed to wet, hot, extreme cold and/or humid conditions.
