Job Description

Overview

The Maintenance Worker at the Atlanta VAMC is responsible for a variety of maintenance and repair tasks under the supervision of the Area Management Unit Supervisor. This role involves ensuring the upkeep of buildings, utilities, and facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Perform a variety of tasks involved in the upkeep of buildings, grounds, and related structures.
  • Lay floor tile and install ceiling tile.
  • Conduct plastering and carpentry work.
  • Paint buildings and structures.
  • Perform minor plumbing tasks.
  • Install door closures, door stops, and safety treads on steps.
  • Repair chairs and other equipment.
  • Mount paper towel holders, signs, corner guards, and other fixtures.
  • Hang bulletin boards, pictures, mirrors, fans, and clocks.
  • Install casters on desks, chairs, and food carts.
  • Install storage cabinets and x-ray view boxes.
  • Perform walk-through inspections of buildings and initiate corrective action as needed.
  • Diagnose issues and either fix them or recommend solutions.

Requirements

  • Must show evidence of training or experience relevant to the position.
  • Qualifications will be evaluated against the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards.
  • Experience can include paid and unpaid work, including volunteer work.
  • Must indicate the nature of duties and responsibilities in each position and hours worked.

Additional Information

  • Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 7:00am - 3:30pm.
  • Work schedule is subject to change based on agency needs.
