Overview
The Building Maintenance Technician II position at Parks & Recreation involves performing skilled manual work for the general maintenance of facilities, including repairs, installations, and various construction tasks. The role requires working under general supervision and may include leading a work crew.
Responsibilities
- Perform general construction and repair tasks, including installing and repairing appliances, doors, locks, fences, windows, and plumbing fixtures.
- Repair gutters, roof leaks, and other structural components.
- Assemble furniture and equipment; hang pictures, blinds, guardrails, and fixtures.
- Pull cables and move furniture as needed.
- Conduct basic plumbing, welding, electrical, carpentry, masonry, and landscaping tasks.
- Install and repair plumbing systems, gas pipelines, and fuel pumps; solder pipes; lay tile flooring; troubleshoot minor electrical issues.
- Maintain appropriate inventory levels of tools, materials, and supplies.
- Order supplies and pick up special parts from vendors as needed.
- Keep shop areas clean and orderly; dispose of refuse properly.
- Perform various tasks and errands such as transporting employees or delivering supplies/equipment.
- Assist other staff as needed and substitute for co-workers during temporary absences.
- Provide training, guidance, and direction to co-workers or assistants; perform supervisory duties when assigned.
- Respond to routine requests for information or assistance from staff, the public, and other individuals.
- Communicate effectively with co-workers and supervisors regarding work orders, problems, and emergency situations.
- Answer phones, provide information, relay messages, and direct or return calls as appropriate.
- Plan and organize daily work routines; set priorities and schedules for task completion.
- Estimate time requirements for tasks and manage personal work schedule accordingly.
- Plan and prepare for special monthly projects.
- Operate and maintain various construction and maintenance equipment.
- Use a variety of carpentry, masonry, electrical, and hand tools.
- Prepare checklists and perform routine preventive maintenance on buildings, equipment, and tools.
- Clean and maintain equipment, supplies, and workshop areas.
- Review blueprints, drawings, and diagrams.
- Receive, complete, and process work orders, invoices, reports, and related documents.
- Prepare and submit maintenance records, work reports, and other required documentation.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Valid Georgia Driver’s License required.
- Two years of experience in construction, carpentry, building trades such as HVAC, plumbing, welding, or electrical.
- A Georgia’s Class B commercial driver’s license (CDL) is preferred.
