Overview
The Senior Structural Engineer 2 - Grid position at Sargent & Lundy involves applying expertise in structural analysis and design within a hybrid work environment. The role focuses on power transmission modifications and upgrades, requiring collaboration with clients and project teams to deliver effective engineering solutions.
Responsibilities
- Apply knowledge of materials, structural analysis, structural steel design, and reinforced concrete design.
- Work on power transmission modifications and upgrades.
- Create calculations, document designs, and specifications.
- Investigate, troubleshoot, and solve structural engineering issues.
- Perform structural analysis and detailed design of steel frames, connections, concrete members, equipment, and foundations.
- Develop integrated structural designs and perform supporting calculations.
- Interface directly with clients and communicate technical information.
- Prepare technical specifications for structural materials.
- Conduct independent reviews of work performed by others.
- Coordinate and provide guidance to engineers, project managers, and clients.
- Review existing facilities to propose upgrades and replacements.
- Travel to client and vendor offices for design reviews and field verification.
Requirements
- BSCE or MSCE from an ABET Engineering Accreditation Commission-approved program.
- 7 or more years of experience as a practicing structural engineer.
- Ability to communicate effectively with clients.
- Ability to perform occasional walk-downs and visit client sites.
- Experience in writing and providing support documentation for structural engineering calculations.
- Ability to complete assignments within budget and schedule with high accuracy.
- Knowledgeable in practical applications of structural engineering.
- Experience with design techniques, tools, and principles for technical plans.
- Proficiency with MathCad, STAAD PRO, SAP2000, SAFE, RISA 3D, and RISA Floor.
- Familiarity with design codes and standards such as IBC, ASCE 7, AISC, and ACI 318.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
