Overview
The Welder/Mechanic position involves learning basic stick welding and assisting in general rail car repair operations under close supervision. The role requires support in handling materials, operating shop equipment, and performing routine maintenance while developing skills in car repair through on-the-job experience.
Responsibilities
- Learn basic stick welding knowledge.
- Assist in general rail car repair operations.
- Support in handling materials during repairs.
- Operate certain shop equipment and mechanical hand tools.
- Perform limited welding under close supervision.
- Conduct routine maintenance work.
- Develop basic skills in car repair through on-the-job experience.
- Assist in car rail shop maintenance.
- Perform basic cutting and welding.
- Remove and replace uncoupling levers.
- Remove and dismantle couplers.
- Remove and replace brake levers.
- Conduct car jacking.
- Supervise truck repair.
- Remove and update AEI tags.
- Certify rail car welding positions (1G Flat and 2G Horizontal).
Requirements
- Driver's License required.
- 1 year of mechanic experience preferred.
- 1 year of experience with hand tools preferred.
- 1 year of MIG welding experience preferred.
- 1 year of brake repair experience preferred.
