Job Description

Overview

The Material Handler position reports to the Plant Manager and is responsible for handling, moving, and storing materials within the plant. The role requires coordination with various team leads to ensure efficient material management and adherence to safety standards.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with the Lead Welder to set up weld stations with materials for production.
  • Move completed weldments to the next process location.
  • Ensure aisles are free of in-process materials.
  • Transport required materials to the saw areas one day prior to need.
  • Transport finished materials to the next process location or intermediate storage.
  • Ensure machine shop aisles are free of in-process material.
  • Work closely with the Procurement Manager to correct inventory record accuracy.
  • Ensure all material moved has a correctly filled out part number tag.
  • Maintain production storage lot in an organized and clean manner.
  • Ensure all material in the production lot is accounted for, labeled/tagged, and managed.
  • Help verify incoming shipments and paperwork for accuracy.
  • Gather and empty all garbage cans in the shop every Monday and Thursday.
  • Separate and empty all scrap containers into respective recycle dumpsters daily.
  • Breakdown all cardboard terminal box containers for recycling.
  • Clean and wash the new forklift every Thursday afternoon.

Requirements

  • 1+ years’ experience operating a forklift or heavy machinery in a relevant environment preferred.
  • A high school diploma or GED.
  • Ability to obtain and retain proper forklift/industrial vehicle license requirements.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to work successfully with a diverse workforce.
  • Strong work ethic to work independently with accuracy.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Acute attention to working safely and maintaining a safe work environment.

Additional Information

  • Work area restrictions include the Weld and Machine shop areas with secondary assistance in the assembly area.
  • Physical demands include standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and sitting for long periods, climbing ladders, and lifting/moving 50 pounds repeatedly.
  • Working in adverse weather conditions.
  • First shift is from 6am to 4:30pm, Monday to Thursday.
