Job Description

Overview

The Weld Lead is responsible for overseeing welders in their area, directing daily tasks, and assisting in training to enhance skills. This role requires a solid understanding of welding materials and procedures, as well as the ability to manage time effectively and work independently or with a team.

Responsibilities

  • Perform welding operations using approved processes MIG, TIG, Flux-core in accordance with WPS and blueprints.
  • Set up, operate, and maintain welding equipment, tools, and fixtures.
  • Read and interpret shop drawings, blueprints, and weld symbols accurately.
  • Prepare materials properly and accurately for welding by cutting, grinding, and fitting components.
  • Weld carbon steel and aluminum as required.
  • Ensure welds meet quality standards, including proper size, profile, and appearance.
  • Inspect completed welds visually and with measuring tools, identifying and correcting defects.
  • Perform weld repairs and rework in compliance with quality and engineering requirements.
  • Follow all safety procedures, including PPE and company requirements.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Handle materials safely using cranes, forklifts, or rigging as required.
  • Properly document work performed including production and inspection sheets.
  • Work collaboratively with coworkers, supervisors, and inspectors to meet production goals.
  • Help with performance reviews and employee disciplinary actions as required by leadership.
  • Other duties as assigned by leadership.

Requirements

  • Welding Certification is preferred.
  • Must have previous experience working with mild steel and stainless steel.
  • Must have solid working knowledge of current welding materials and procedures.
  • Attention to detail and initiative to be self-motivated and directed.
  • Ability to manage time and work independently or with other team members.
  • Able to read and interpret multipage blueprints.
  • Weld separately or in combination of, using stainless steel, cast iron, and other alloys.
  • At least 2 years of continual welding experience preferred.
  • Experience in supervising at least 1 year.
