Overview

The Pipefitter plans and lays out work for installing or replacing piping in compressor systems for medical air and vacuum systems. This role requires a broad knowledge of equipment and systems, practical knowledge of pipefitting and plumbing trades, and extensive knowledge of steam fitting.

Responsibilities

• Repair piping or associated equipment to complex systems including domestic water, hydronic, medical/surgical gas, and vacuum systems.
• Disassemble complex devices to determine proper operation and make internal repairs.
• Program computer-operated systems such as lawn sprinkler and fuel oil systems.
• Interpret drawings, specifications, schematics, and operator manuals of varying complexity.
• Prepare requests for parts, materials, tools, and services as needed.
• Size, layout, and integrate systems associated with HVAC operations.
• Use shop mathematics to determine the sizing of pipes and connections.
• Perform pipe welding on systems operating at high pressure and high temperatures.
• Conduct preventative maintenance, repairs, and installations on contaminated drain systems.
• Troubleshoot the entire steam distribution system and various water and gas systems.
• Operate equipment such as threading machines, welding machines, and pipe cutting machines.

Additional Information

• Work Schedule: Monday - Friday; 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM
• Physical exertion involving lifting, pushing, pulling, or carrying objects of varying weight.
• Exposed to heat, restricted ventilation, and poor illumination in equipment rooms.
