Overview
General Dynamics NASSCO is seeking a J-4 Shopbased Shipfitter in Norfolk, Virginia. The role involves operating a water jet table and requires AutoCAD experience along with basic computer skills.
Responsibilities
- Plan and complete work with little supervision using blueprints.
- Layout plates, pipes, and structural shapes including complex layouts.
- Understand ship-related nomenclature and locate structures in relation to frames and centerlines.
- Know weld symbols and apply them for material preparation for welding.
- Perform tack welding, burning, and use various power tools.
- Make templates for fabrications and installations of ship structures.
- Assemble foundations, deck houses, and specialized structures for all areas of the ship.
- Follow the guidelines of 5S and be aware of standard items.
Requirements
- Ability to operate a water jet table.
- Experience with AutoCAD.
- Basic computer skills.
- Knowledge of ship-related nomenclature.
- Ability to work with blueprints with minimal supervision.
