Overview

The Welder position at Orion involves providing yard maintenance support through welding, cutting, grinding, and other related tasks. The role emphasizes safety, quality, delivery, and teamwork, with a strong foundation in integrity.

Responsibilities

• Work as assigned by the Welding Shop Foreman to complete marine yard support projects.
• Gather information on the scope of work and obtain necessary permits before starting welding projects.
• Cut, weld, chip, and grind metal as required by the project.
• Utilize oxygen-acetylene cutting torch and related equipment for cutting metal.
• Weld pieces of sheet metal after individual sheet piles are driven into place.
• Stick rod weld in all positions to complete jobs.
• Rig cables for lifting and moving objects.
• Handle placement of steel plates and sheet piles using cranes, winches, and hand tools.
• Operate saws, presses, drills, and grinders to fabricate parts for equipment repairs.
• Inspect and make minor repairs to welding equipment and notify Foreman of needed parts.
• Pick up materials and supplies for project completion.
• Collaborate with other skilled crafts persons to complete projects safely and efficiently.
• Participate in safety and environmental initiatives to comply with regulations.

Requirements

• Minimum of two years welding experience or equivalent combination of experience and training.
• Good knowledge of welding practices and materials.
• Understanding of physical characteristics of various metals used in marine construction.
• Knowledge of operation of various types of marine equipment.
• Ability to pass standard welding tests demonstrating proficiency.
• Skill in operating stick rod welding, acetylene and arc welding equipment, and hand/power tools.
• Effective verbal communication skills and ability to keep simple records.
