Overview

The Marine Welder position at HII involves supporting fleet modernization through various welding processes on active class surface ships, submarines, and shore-based facilities. HII is a trusted partner to military customers, providing advanced technologies and solutions for national defense.

Responsibilities

• Support trades team by working on active class surface ships to assist with alterations and installations for fleet modernization.
• Perform all work in accordance with established quality and safety procedures.
• Work from blueprints, engineering sketches, charts, or work orders.
• Install, operate, maintain, repair, and modify structural and piping elements and equipment.
• Cut, fit, assemble, and position pieces to be welded into jigs, holding fixtures, and existing structure using hand and powered tools.
• Troubleshoot and diagnose malfunctions to eliminate problems in minimum time.
• Participate in special projects as required.
• Inspect completed work for conformance to specifications.
• Maintain effective customer communications and relations.
• Provide guidance and work leadership to less-experienced welders.

Requirements

• High School education, or Trade School or equivalent, and 8 years of related experience.
• Must be able to obtain medical clearance to wear a half-face respirator.
• Must have welding experience with stick welding (SMAW) process in all positions for Carbon and Stainless Steel.
• Must have welding experience with gas metal arc welding (GMAW) process in all positions for Aluminum.
• Must have strong knowledge of reading and interpreting drawings, blueprints, and technical manuals.
• Must be capable of using various measuring instruments.
• Must have knowledge of quality control steps and procedures.
• Must adhere to safety and quality procedures set forth by HII and host facilities.
• Must have experience working in a team environment.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD secret security clearance.

Additional Information

• Required travel: 51 - 75%
• Per Diem provided based on location when on travel.
• Travel and lodging expenses are covered by the company.
