Overview
The Welder position at the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) involves working as part of a structural welding crew responsible for fabricating, installing, and repairing steel bridge components. The role requires compliance with applicable laws and regulations while serving the community with integrity and innovation.
Responsibilities
- Perform skilled work at the journeyman level using acetylene torches and electric arc welding equipment.
- Cut, braze, weld, lay out, and fabricate various metal components in the shop and field.
- Examine rough plans to ensure proper dimensions and repair, replace, or fabricate components as necessary.
- Make minor repairs and adjustments to equipment and maintain it in good working order.
- Operate heavy trucks and other equipment while moving from job to job.
- Exercise functional supervision over Trades Apprentices on various jobs as needed.
- Work unsupervised on small to medium jobs as needed.
Requirements
- Two years of experience or training in the welding trade.
- Completion of a Technical Diploma or Associate of Applied Science welding program from a Louisiana Technical or Community College or equivalent program from other institutions.
- Class D License required at time of appointment.
