Job Description

Overview

As a Welder with the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, you will work with various tools and metals to repair and fabricate equipment, ensuring the safety and reliability of the Franklin County Maintenance Organization’s vehicles and machinery. This role emphasizes dedication, skill, and strong work practices within a team environment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform welding, brazing, soldering, and cutting on metal parts and equipment.
  • Fix plow frames, blades, spreaders, and other winter service equipment.
  • Create or modify metal parts to support equipment needs.
  • Use power tools, air tools, and motorized equipment safely during repair work.
  • Assist with mounting, removing, disassembling, and reassembling equipment components.
  • Maintain safe work habits, observe hazards, and follow all safety requirements.

Requirements

  • Three years of experience in the operation and use of welding equipment, materials, and related shop equipment; or
  • Completion of a three-year high school Vo-Tech training program in welding and eighteen months of experience; or
  • Completion of an approved welder apprentice program; or
  • A welding certificate D1.1 from the American Welding Society; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • Possession of an active Pennsylvania Class C Driver's License.
  • Ability to perform essential job functions.

Additional Information

  • Full-time employment.
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Mandatory or unscheduled overtime may be required.
  • No telework option available.
