Overview

Astec is a global, environmentally focused infrastructure and manufacturing company specializing in asphalt road building and aggregate processing. The Welder II position involves welding metal components to fabricate and repair large mechanical products under supervision, adhering to safety and quality standards.

Responsibilities

  • Adhere to all safety rules and perform work at a quality level.
  • Read and understand assigned blueprints prior to starting a project.
  • Participate in process and product development and improvement programs.
  • Accurately inspect metal prior to welding to ensure clean welds.
  • Perform grinding operations that comply with Astec’s standards.
  • Support team by providing an efficient layout of the plants equipment to ensure proper welding.
  • Inspect welds for quality and proper weld.
  • Perform layouts, cutting and fitting of material.
  • Use welding equipment to burn and cut through materials.
  • Keep work area clean and neat.
  • Ensure welding machine settings are appropriate for work to be performed.
  • Safely use cranes and forklifts.
  • Know PPE requirements for welding including hood and filter shades and arm/body protection.
  • Read and understand weld symbols.
  • Select proper rods or wires to perform the welding job.
  • Maintain welding machines by keeping them clean and changing liners in the welding guns.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Trade school or community college course work preferred.
  • 2+ years of experience with heavy equipment Fabrication and fitment welding.
  • Computer experience is desired, particularly the ability to use a mouse.
  • Knowledge and ability to perform all Grinder tasks required.
  • Ability to properly and safely MiG weld required.
  • Ability to read and understand weld symbols required.

Additional Information

  • Manufacturing environment with exposure to moving mechanical parts, machinery, tools, and equipment.
  • Noise level in the shop can be very loud at times consistent with an industrial assembly facility.
